CUHKSZ Night in Jakarta
On March 26, 2023, the University has successfully held the "CUHKSZ in Jakarta" event in Indonesia and welcomed over 100 guests. This is the first event ever by the University held overseas.
Distinguished guests include Mr. Yudil Chatim, the Education and Culture Attaché of the Indonesian Embassy in Beijing, local high school leaders and the Indonesian student representative. Prof. Shiping Zhu, Vice President of CUHKSZ, warmly received them.
The event kicked off at 8pm with a welcome speech by Prof. Zhu, who expressed gratitude to the local authority, parents teachers and alumni for their kind support to the University. Despite of the pandemic in the past three years, which has brought significant impact to studying in China, the number of Indonesian students applying and enrolling with CUHKSZ saw a steady increase. In the past nine years, the University has recruited over 330 Indonesian students in total, and currently over 260 of them are studying with us, which is the largest group of Indonesian students among all universities in the Chinese mainland. There are also more than 50 Indonesian alumni, who are all playing active role in different industries across the entire world. By the end of his speech, the Vice President extended an invitation to all the guests to visit the University, as China has recently announced that the issuance of all types of visa will gradually resume to pre-COVID.

Mr. Yudil Chatim, the Education and Culture Attaché of the Indonesian Embassy in China, flew all the way from Beijing to attend and speak at the event. He started by telling his own story of studying in China, the incredible experience that has changed his understanding of China and the world. Mr. Yudil visited CUHKSZ multiple times, and each time he was deeply impressed by the University’s educational philosophy and the multicultural campus. He firmly believes CUHKSZ is an ideal place for studying in China, and encouraged the cultural communication and exchange between the young people of two countries.

The event was also attended by 25 CUHKSZ Indonesian alumni, 52 local parents and 13 international applicants for the 2023 entry. James Wijaya, Class of 2022 of SME, Harmonia College, spoke on behalf of the alumni as the newly appointed chair of the CUHKSZ Indonesia Alumni Association. In his speech, he was grateful for the four years of undergraduate studies with CUHKSZ, which laid a solid foundation for his first step in a competitive job market. He urged the alumni to work with the Association together to share resources and to maintain the connection with the alma mater. One alumnus who missed the graduation ceremony due to the pandemic brought his cap and gown to the event and took pictures with Prof. Zhu as a make-up.


Ms. Susanti Kowinto spoke on behalf of all the parents. The mother to a second year student of SME. Muse College, Ms. Susanti is also in charge of four international high schools under IPEKA, a distinguished educational group in Indonesia. She hopes her son will take the advantages of the University resources to elevate his competence in both life and career.

Markus Maximus Soenarjo, who is about to graduate from SMA Kanisius, a reputable high school in Jakarta, spoke as the representative of the 2023 entry applicants. Markus is a professional youth golf player, and won many times in different international tournaments. He expected himself to make new friends and meet new challenges in college. Markus was offered a place to study at CUHKSZ starting from September 2023. His parents mentioned that CUHKSZ is the only university Markus applied to.

The event ended with announcing the establishment of the CUHKSZ Indonesia Alumni Association and the parent association. This is the first overseas alumni association and parent organization founded by the University.
