Q: Can you briefly introduce your hometown in Thailand?

My hometown is Nonthaburi. It takes at least 30 minutes by car from Nonthaburi to Bangkok. Nonthaburi Province is a new economic zone but has a long history of agriculture. Durian is referred to as the “King of Fruits”, and the best and most expensive durian in the world is from Nonthaburi. It is known as the "Durian Non", which specifically refers to the durian from Nonthaburi Province.

Nonthaburi has a quiet and calm atmosphere. There are many tourist attractions in Nonthaburi Province, one of which is Nonthaburi Pier. It is along the Chao Phraya River, a major river in Thailand. I suggest you walk along the Nonthaburi Pier, where you can enjoy all kinds of delicious Thai food. 

บ้านเกิดของดิฉันคือนนทบุรีค่ะ การเดินทางไปกรุงเทพจากนนทบุรีด้วยรถยนต์จะใช้เวลาประมาณ 30 นาทีขึ้นไป จังหวัดนนทบุรีเป็นเมืองเศรษฐกิจใหม่และมีประวัติศาสตร์ที่อิงกับเรื่องเกษตร เช่นทุเรียน ทุเรียน ทุเรียนถูกเรียกบ่อยๆว่าเป็นราชาของผลไม้ และทุเรียนที่ดีและแพงที่สุดในโลกก็มาจากจังหวัดนนทบุรีค่ะ นนทบุรีมีบรรยากาศที่เงียบและสงบ สถานที่ท่องเที่ยวในจังหวัดนนทบุรีมีมากมายและหนึ่งในนั้นก็คือท่าน้ำนนทบุรี ท่าน้ำนนทบุรีเป็นท่าเรือริมน้ำเจ้าพระยาซึ่งเป็นแม่น้ำสายหลักสายหนึ่งของประเทศไทย นักท่องเที่ยวสามารถเดินรอบ ๆ ท่าน้ำนนทบุรีและอิ่มอร่อยกับอาหารไทยนานาชนิด 

Q: Why did you want to study in China?

I first studied Chinese at Anglo Singapore International School in Bangkok when I was 6. It is an international school offering a Singaporian curriculum with Chinese language courses. I kept on studying Chinese throughout high school and passed HSK 4 there. I wanted to attend university in China to improve my Chinese. 

In addition to this, my family has several important business partners in China. I want to study business in China, so I can better support my family business after graduation.

Q: Why did you choose CUHK-Shenzhen?

I got to know CUHK-Shenzhen while searching for universities in China. CUHK-Shenzhen attracted my attention because of its location, the city of Shenzhen, which is often referred to as the “Silicon Valley of China”. I am also glad that all programs are taught in English. CUHK-Shenzhen also ranks high, which means the university maintains high standards in education.

Q: How did you apply to CUHK-Shenzhen?

I applied to CUHK-Shenzhen with IELTS, SAT, GED and IGCSE scores. It was a free online application.

Q: What did you enjoy most in your first year?

I enjoyed exploring Shenzhen and Guangzhou with my new friends from Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia. I had fun going out for lunch and dinner with them. Shenzhen, especially Longgang, is a very peaceful place with great weather, and the campus is surrounded by trees.

สิ่งที่ดิฉันชอบที่สุดในช่วงปีแรกคือการสำรวจเซินเจิ้นและกวางโจวกับเพื่อนของดิฉันที่มาจากประเทศไทย, อินโดนีเซีย, และ มาเลเซียค่ะ เซินเจิ้นโดยเฉพาะในเขตหลงกั่ง เป็นที่ที่สงบมากและมีอากาศดี ในมหาวิทยาลัยก็รายล้อมไปด้วยต้นไม้ค่ะ 

Q: What was the biggest challenge you had as a freshman? How did you handle the challenge(s)?

One of the biggest challenges was living independently. It was my first time to be away from home for so long. But everyone at CUHK-Shenzhen is very friendly and eager to help. I have really nice roommates from Indonesia. I was touched when they surprised me and the other roommate with two cakes on our birthdays. I feel more at ease with them around, and slowly but steadily, I got used to my new life at CUHK-Shenzhen.

Q: How did you decide on your major at the end of the first academic year?

At first, I was not sure about my major. I wanted to major in Global Business Studies, but after the info sessions offered by the School of Management and Economics, which were to help freshmen decide on their majors, I felt Marketing and Communication more fitting.

Q: Can you tell us about your life at Muse College?

Muse College provides necessary facilities such as laundry machines, electric stoves and refrigerators. I learnt to do my own laundry and cook. I love studying in my dorm because it is the most comfortable place for me. Sometimes I study in the study room at Muse. I hope you like the animation I made about my college life at Muse.

Q: Any plans for the second year?

When I see a lot of students studying really hard in the library, I want to catch up with them, too.  So I plan to focus more on my study in the second year. I met many new friends and I felt there is a lot for me to learn and grow. I wish to learn more soft skills in communication and critical thinking. 

สำหรับปีการศึกษาที่สอง ดิฉันวางแผนที่จะเรียนรู้อย่างจริงจังมากขึ้น บางทีดิฉันก็จะไปที่ห้องสมุด และจะเจอนักเรียนมากมายที่ตั้งใจอ่านหนังกัน พอเห็นแบบนั้นแล้ว ดิฉันก็รู้สึกว่าดิฉันเองก็ควรที่จะตั้งใจเรียนมากขึ้นด้วยค่ะ หลังจากเข้าเรียนและพบปะผู้คนใหม่ๆ ใน CUHK-Shenzhen ดิฉันรู้สึกว่าตัวเองยังสามารถเรียนรู้และเติบโตขึ้นได้อีก ดิฉันอยากที่จะเรียนรู้ทักษะใหม่ๆเช่น การสื่อสารและการคิดวิเคราะห์

Q: What would you take them to see if you bring your CUHK-Shenzhen friends to Thailand/Bangkok?

I would bring my friends to see the floating markets in Bangkok, for example, the Taling Chan floating market. So they can experience Thai vibes and enjoy delicious Thai food.

Q: Do you have any advice for prospects preparing for the 2024 entry?

I am sure that there will be many challenges to face. My advice is to be positive and do not lose hope. In my opinion, being optimistic is extremely important in order to overcome obstacles and improve oneself.
