Hitomi Tee Jin Ling (2021, SDS, SHAW)
Hi, I'm Hitomi from Malaysia, a junior student majoring in Data Science and Big Data Technology. I'm currently the president of the International Students' Association.
As far as I’m concerned, there’s nothing happier in life than living in the moment and living out oneself, therefore, I'm always eager to explore the world and challenge myself. I enjoy sports, nature, charity work, and calligraphy.
I believe that passion is the biggest motivation; I treat knowledge like my friend and enjoy the process of understanding and “communicating” with it. With this intellectual curiosity, I have joined an internship-like research project collaborating with Huawei.
It's my great pleasure to be awarded the SUISF scholarship. By receiving this, I may get closer to my dream of weekly supporting charity organisations. Thanks to everyone who has been helping me and spreading love to me.
Tang Tze Ying (2020, SDS, SHAW)
Hello, I'm Tze Ying from Malaysia, currently a senior student majoring in Data Science. Over the past few years, I've delved into a range of interdisciplinary courses to identify my true passions, preparing myself for the professional world.
In addition to my academic pursuits, my journey at the university has also been enriched by my involvement in the International Students' Association. Starting as a member, I gradually advanced to the role of department leader, and culminating in my appointment as the president in AY2022/23. This experience has deepened my appreciation for Shenzhen's inclusivity and diversity, besides honing my leadership and coordination skills.
I am deeply honored to receive the SUISF scholarship. I hope this opportunity not only recognizes my dedication but also encourages more expats in Shenzhen to embrace inclusivity and seize the thriving opportunities in this dynamic city.
Ding Yeen Yi (2021, SDS, DILIGENTIA)
I'm Yeen Yi from Malaysia, and my fascination with the impact of data science in our modern world drove me to pursue this degree. The scholarship I've been fortunate to secure not only emphasises academic excellence but also active involvement in extracurricular activities, aligning perfectly with my belief that university life should offer a comprehensive experience.
Over the past three years, I've been an active member of the International Students' Association, where I've formed meaningful connections and broadened my horizons. Guided by the principle "If not now, then when?" I see this scholarship as more than just financial relief; it enables me to fully immerse myself in my academic journey and embrace the richness of university life!
Kee Cheng (2021, SDS, SHAW)
In February, my arrival at CUHK-Shenzhen filled me with excitement. I aimed to create a remarkable university experience by forming strong bonds with local and international peers and forging lasting memories. I was fortunate to be granted the SUISF scholarship, emphasising culture, academics, and extracurricular pursuits, aligned with my picture of university life.
I play floorball, and was a national floorball athlete for my country, Malaysia. My passion for data science grew from analysing sports strategies. Majoring in Data Science at CUHK-Shenzhen allowed me to delve deeper into this field, thanks to engaging content and supportive professors and peers, contributing to personal and academic growth.
Beyond the classroom, I explored new sports and hobbies, found a sense of belonging in the International Students' Association, and embarked on adventures within and beyond Shenzhen. CUHK-Shenzhen expanded my horizons and uncovered new facets of myself. In closing, a reminder to all readers: "Don't be afraid to try; or be afraid you don't." Embrace the opportunities that come your way.
Vincent Billy (2021, SSE, MUSE)
Hi, I'm Vincent, a junior New Energy Engineering student from Indonesia. I am passionate about my major. The university's interdisciplinary curriculum has dramatically broadened my horizons. Beyond my studies, I serve as a Mechanics undergraduate teaching assistant under Prof. Xiao Bowen and a research assistant for Prof. Ji Dongxu, specialising in Geothermal Energy and Thermal Energy Storage.
I embrace my roles with a profound sense of purpose beyond mere duty, with a commitment to ensure the success of those around me.
To me, scholarships represent more than academic prowess; they reflect holistic development rooted in a solid vision and mission. My credibility for the scholarship is a testament to the qualities I've nurtured over time. As a SUISF scholarship recipient, I'm reaffirmed that my unwavering dedication has borne fruit, strengthening my conviction that continued investment in character and perseverance pays off in the long run.
Aaron (2021, SDS, LING)
Hi! I'm Aaron, a Big Data major, third year at CUHK-Shenzhen. I'm a trilingualist, 2 years running dean's list recipient, and current member of the Statistics Alliance at CUHK-Shenzhen. I chose China for my undergraduate studies in order to reconcile with my Chinese cultural roots, which history has estranged us, Chinese Indonesians, from. This year I plan to further improve my skillset in machine learning and statistical methods in data analysis, and secure an internship for a firm in Shenzhen / research assistant position.
I'm grateful to be a recipient of the SUISF scholarship as it unlocks more options for me to explore my passion for data science. In addition to the above, the scholarship will allow me to fund potential future personal independent researches in reinforcement learning, which I have taken a keen interest in. I may not know it yet, but the SUISF scholarship may be my gateway to pursuing a PhD in the future.
Stephen Kowinto (2021, SME, MUSE)
Hello, I'm Stephen Kowinto from Indonesia, a Global Business Management major at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. My educational journey here is not just about academics; it's a holistic experience that's shaping me into a diligent and independent individual.
Outside the classroom, I thrive on a dynamic routine. I love going to the gym, and I'm also an active member of the Muse volleyball team. In addition, I love giving back to my university community, whether it's through my role as a student helper, leading the campus tour team, or serving as a cadre member at the academic department for the fitness club. Furthermore, I'm a proud member of the PPIT (Indonesian organisation).
I'm deeply grateful for the scholarship I've received. It's not only a financial relief for me but also a tremendous source of motivation for my academic pursuits, benefiting not just me, but also my family.
Reiko Chow Zin Shin (2021, SME, MUSE)
Hi! I'm Reiko from Malaysia. I think I'm a strong advocate for embracing diversity and exploring the intricacies of Chinese culture, so I made my decision to study at CUHK-Shenzhen to rekindle the connection with my Chinese heritage. Immersed in the vibrant hub of Shenzhen, I found a captivating blend of technological innovation and rich local traditions, inspiring my academic pursuits and personal growth.
My life philosophy is "If you don't risk anything, you risk even more." Therefore, I have always fearlessly embraced challenges and embarked on the enriching journey of self-discovery. For example, I utilised my STEM diploma to secure a coveted spot in a Space Camp Exchange program, demonstrating my tenacity and resourcefulness in pursuing my passion for astronomy. Moreover, my interest in the art of public speaking has found expression in their roles as the host of the Mid-Autumn Gala, participation in the English debate team, and involvement with the TEDxCUHKSZ platform.
Immensely grateful for the invaluable support of the scholarship, I look forward to the forthcoming semester, where I will utilise this time to secure internships in Shenzhen, and further deepen my interest and enthusiasm in business analytics.
Jane Lim Chun Jia (2020, SME, DILIGENTIA)
Hi I'm Jane Lim Chun Jia, a year 4 Malaysian undergraduate student who is majoring in Finance.
Finance is an exciting yet challenging module to take. In CUHK-Shenzhen, I not only learnt about the Chinese financial market, but was also provided with a global perspective. It's a great combination of both qualitative and quantitative aspects when it comes to analysing the market.
I was the Vice President (2022/2023) of the International Students' Association. Other than studies, I spent most of my free time engaging in meaningful activities that serve the interests of our international community. Sometimes, I play sports to keep myself active.
I really appreciate the opportunity and inclusivity that SUISF is delivering to the international students studying in China. With this scholarship, I will work harder to achieve my goals in China and abroad. Thank you, SUISF!
Zoe Emmanuel Halim (2021, SDS, LING)
Hello, nice to meet you. I am Zoe Emmanuel Halim from Indonesia. I am very grateful to receive the SUISF scholarship 2023.
In the video I submitted for the scholarship, I made a promise that starting my third year I would pursue research on Operations Management and join more local communities in the school.
Indeed, not long after, I was blessed to have been welcomed in a student-oriented research team on inventory management and two student organisations in the university. My journey thus far has been very fulfilling and exciting, and this is all thanks to CUHK-Shenzhen’s advocacy toward the bilingual and multicultural aspects of education. As this university is a leading research institute and a great technological contributor in Southern China, I hope to learn more from my peers and professors so that someday I can also contribute to this very research institute.
Kezia Liu (2022, SME, MUSE)
Hello, my name is Kezia Liu, and I come from the beautiful island of Bali in Indonesia. I am a second-year student studying Marketing and Communications.
Academically, my mindset is that as long as I have tried my best, the outcomes will not be terrible. Comparison with others is not healthy; instead, we should compare with our past selves and focus on personal growth. During my time outside of class, I love to travel around China and try different culinary delights.
Receiving this scholarship is such a blessing! I am very grateful to the scholarship foundation and also to CUHK-Shenzhen for providing me such an amazing platform to sharpen my abilities and express my creativity.
