CUHK-Shenzhen Held the 2nd "Jakarta Night" and 10th Anniversary Celebration in Jakarta
On April 27, 2024, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK-Shenzhen) held the 2nd "Jakarta Night" and 10th Anniversary Celebration in Indonesia and welcomed over 400 parents and students.
The event was attended by distinguished guests, including Mr. Rachmat Kaimuddin, Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Transportation, Coordinating Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Investment, Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Yudil Chatim, Education Attaché at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in China, representatives from Huawei Technologies Indonesia, and leaders from Indonesian universities and senior secondary schools.
Mr. Paul Ke, Director of the Office of Academic Links, warmly welcomed the attendees and kicked off the event with remarks on the growing ties between China and Indonesia, particularly in youth, education, and culture. In its ten years, the university has established prestigious academic clusters and has become a leading destination for Indonesian students in the Chinese Mainland.
Mr. M. Rachmat Kaimuddin, has been a witness to the growing friendship between the two countries. He noted that the Indonesian government's recent attraction to Chinese investment, along with the advanced technology of Shenzhen, will provide broader opportunities for Indonesian youth. He also emphasized the importance of cooperation in education, science, and technology, which can contribute to the common prosperity of both economies and deepen the friendship between the two countries.
Mr. Yudil Chatim, who traveled from Beijing to attend the "Jakarta Night" for the second consecutive year, shared his experience of studying in China and encouraged the younger generation to deepen mutual understanding through educational exchanges. He has visited CUHK-Shenzhen on several occasions and considers it an ideal institution for Indonesian students seeking internationalized higher education.
Clara Valencia and Celine Nadya Gunawan, both alumni of Class of 2023, shared their cherished memories of university life and expressed their gratitude for how CUHK-Shenzhen has shaped their future. Carisa Tania Suryabadi, an offer holder set to enroll at CUHK-Shenzhen this year, also shared her aspirations and expectations for her college life.
Mrs. Diana Sutanto, speaking on behalf of all parents, spoke high of CUHK-Shenzhen as an excellent institution, expressing relief that her son is studying at a university that provides considerate care and services for international students.
The performances by Mr. James Wijaya, the Chair of the CUHK-Shenzhen Indonesian Alumni Association, and by Santa Laurensia High School delighted the audience with songs and traditional Indonesian music. Lastly, all participants shared a birthday cake baked by Mrs. Imelda Sulaiman, mother of Clara Valencia, symbolizing the support and blessings from the parents to the university.
An information session was held in the afternoon on the same day. Professor Konstantinos Courcoubetis from the School of Data Science, Professor Guozhen Liu from the School of Medicine, Professor Bowen Xiao from the School of Science and Engineering, and Professor Wen Zhang from the School of Management and Economics introduced their respective schools' specialties, scientific research platforms, and career prospects. The International Admissions Team of the Office of Academic Links also presented the policy for international student enrollment in 2025. Additionally, the Human Resource Department of Huawei Technology Investment Co., Ltd. Indonesia, shared an analysis and outlook of the employment market in China and Indonesia, offering valuable insights for students and parents.
