Applicants of Chinese Heritage holding a Chinese ID/Hukou/passport/mainland travel permit are legally deemed to have Chinese Citizenship. Unless having officially renounced their Chinese citizenship via the authorized channel, the applicants are NOT eligible to be admitted via International Admissions. Students holding a non-Chinese passport for a minimum of four years are eligible to apply to CUHK-Shenzhen as international applicants.
To enroll at CUHK-Shenzhen, an international student is required to enter the Chinese Mainland with a Chinese Study Visa, and subsequently to legally remain in China as a foreign citizen by acquiring a Student Residence Permit.
If you do not meet the above conditions, you are not allowed to enroll with CUHK-Shenzhen regardless of whether an offer is being made or not. If we discover so during the application, admission, or registration process, we will cease your application review, and your offer, if being made, to study with CUHK-Shenzhen, conditional or unconditional, will be revoked and become null and invalid immediately. If we discover so after registration, you will be dismissed from the university immediately. If you have paid the Deposit to us, the fee is NON-REFUNDABLE in this scenario.
*Eligibility for those of Chinese Heritage:
Regulated by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, students of Chinese Heritage (one or both of the parents are Chinese citizens by birth) need to meet the following conditions to be eligible to apply to CUHK-Shenzhen as international applicants via international admissions:
* “China” and “Chinese” here refer to the Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan.
- You must have held a non-Chinese passport for a minimum of four years.
- You must NOT have Chinese Citizenship or have previously renounced your Chinese citizenship officially via the authorized channel.
- You must have resided in a country or region outside China for at least two years in the past four years. For instance, for 2024 entry, an applicant must have lived outside China for at least two years (or at least nine months each year) from 2020 to April 30, 2024.
If you do not meet all the requirements above, you are NOT eligible to apply to CUHK-Shenzhen as an International Applicant via international admissions.
